✶ Thursday February 26th from 6pm - 8:00pm(ish) ✶
Before the large surrealist paintings that Klint is known for, she did a vast gorgeous series of botanical illustrations. In these paintings you can see how she breaks down the individual plant parts, the leaves, the flower, where the plants break apart into shapes and curl into spirals. You can see how this work and process show up in her later paintings, with curling shapes that look like seed pods and flower heads.
In the 2 hour art class students will use plants from the shop as references to create their own Hilma Af Klint style painting. The class will start with color theory and composition before most of the time in spent on individual paintings. This will be a cozy guided art session where we’ll look closely at many plants, pulling pieces from each for color references and shapes. Students can choose the more botanical route or embrace the abstract, or a combination of the two! By the end of class students will go home with their own 8 in x 10 in Hilma Af Klint inspired botanical painting!
