Fruticose Lichen Painting Class at Leaf & Quiet - Sept 6th
✶ Saturday September 6th from 4pm - 6pm(ish) ✶
In this two hour art class we will go over how to approach painting a lichen specimen on a black background with acrylic paint. This will be a cozy guided art session that will include traditional scientific illustration techniques, how to paint light on top of dark, color theory and the benefits of dark negative space when portraying a small organic subject. I will also be teaching some of my favorite tips and tricks I’ve learned from painting lichen for the last 5 years! Students will use a native lichen specimen ethically foraged off of dirt roads throughout the local forest by myself. This class will be beginner oriented but all skill levels are welcome to attend.
By the end of the class everyone will go home with a finished and labeled (common and scientific name) roughly 5 x 7 inch dark naturalism illustration of a native lichen.
All art supplies will be provided including pre-painted black watercolor paper, paint, brushes, glass palettes and water but please feel free to bring your own nature journal, sketchbook, preferred supplies or specimen from your own adventure.
